Simple Science for Preschoolers

My boys love anything water related, so a lot of our science experiments have to do with liquids. So far the boys have loved making Gooey Geysers, exploring how condensation works and making Chocolate Foam.
This week the boys have still been under the weather, so I arranged a simple science experiment for them to do together.

I put together a tray with some water, a mixing jug,m and six pantry items. These were
  • flour
  • brown sugar
  • baking soda
  • rolled oats
  • sprinkles
  • rice

The boys took turns putting each one in the water.

We talked about what the word "dissolve" meant, and the Lucas guessed if each item would dissolve or not in the water.

The boys had great fun guessing and finding out if they were correct! I changed the water each time, and the boys would guess during that break.

Even Adam was entertained with this science experiment.

Lucas was so proud and excited when he guessed right!

This was such a simple activity with minimal set up and no special ingredients required- perfect for open ended play as well to make their own soup with the water and pantry ingredients when you have finished.

Thanks for stopping by today!
